Location

Las Casitas is located in the La Hacienda development on San Felipe’s south beach, approximately 6 miles (10 km) south of town along the Carretera Punta Estrella in Baja California, Mexico.

Driving Directions

Most visitors reach San Felipe by car from the United States. The most common route is through the Mexicali border crossing:

  1. Cross the border at Mexicali — The Mexicali East (Mexicali II / Los Algodones) crossing typically has shorter wait times than the downtown crossing. Bring your passport and, if staying more than 72 hours or traveling beyond the free zone, obtain an FMM tourist permit at the border.
  2. Take Mexico Highway 5 south — From the border, follow Highway 5 (Carretera Transpeninsular) south toward San Felipe. The road is a well-maintained two-lane highway through flat desert terrain.
  3. Continue through town — Drive through San Felipe along the main road heading south.
  4. Turn onto Carretera Punta Estrella — About 6 miles south of San Felipe’s town center, look for the La Hacienda development entrance on the left (ocean side). Las Casitas is inside the La Hacienda gated community.

Border Crossing Tips

  • Mexicali East (Mexicali II) is recommended — it’s typically faster than the downtown port of entry, especially on weekends.
  • Bring your passport — a passport card or SENTRI card will speed up your return.
  • Mexican auto insurance is required. US and Canadian policies do not cover you in Mexico. Purchase a policy online before your trip or at an insurance office near the border.
  • FMM tourist permits are needed for stays beyond 72 hours or travel south of the border free zone. You can obtain one at the border immigration office.
